Home Decluttering Services in NYC

DDH (Done & Done Home) is a women-owned team of professional home organizers serving New York City for over 15 years. From compact Manhattan studios to multi-floor Brooklyn brownstones, we handle every part of the project: sorting, removing, organizing, and building systems that last.

Professional Home Decluttering Services in NYC

New York City homes are unlike those anywhere else in the country. Manhattan co-ops and high-rise apartments on the Upper East Side and Upper West Side come with strict building regulations, mandatory freight elevator windows, and service-hour restrictions that must be coordinated before a single item leaves the building. In Tribeca and SoHo, open-plan lofts offer generous square footage, but with no walls to hide the mess, clutter is always on display.

Brooklyn brownstones in Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, and Cobble Hill span multiple floors with narrow hallways and limited closet space packed with years of accumulated belongings. In Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Long Island City in Queens, growing families in two- and three-bedroom apartments have long outgrown their storage. Across the Bronx and Staten Island, free-standing homes with basements and garages have quietly become household catch-alls for everything that never found a permanent home.

Our team has worked in hundreds of New York City homes across all five boroughs. We know the specific logistical realities of your building and your neighborhood before we arrive. Nothing about your home or your situation will catch us off guard.

Home Decluttering

We work through every room in your NYC home methodically, sorting, deciding, and clearing. You are left with a clean, functional space that is easier to use and genuinely easier to maintain.

Home Organization

Once the clutter is cleared, we build systems designed around how you actually live. We maximize your existing storage and create configurations that are both intuitive and sustainable long after we leave.

Downsizing & Rightsizing

We provide patient, experienced support for New Yorkers sorting through a lifetime of belongings. Whether you are moving to a smaller apartment, helping a parent transition, or managing a major life change, we help you decide what moves forward and what does not — including sentimental, fragile, and high-value items.

Home Sale Preparation

We prepare your NYC home for the market with a staging-focused declutter, smart storage recommendations, and coordination with your real estate agent or broker. Our team works on your timeline and helps create a home that photographs well, shows well, and is ready for prospective buyers.

Estate Management & Clearouts

We manage every detail of the estate clearout process in New York City: room-by-room inventory, responsible distribution of items, donation coordination, appraisal connections, and comprehensive documentation for families navigating one of life’s most demanding transitions.

Post-Move Organization

Moving into a new NYC apartment or home? We unpack, set up every room, and build organizational systems from day one so your new home starts organized rather than buried in boxes.

We Organize Your Life. You Live It.

Why Choose Done & Done Home

Why NYC Homeowners Choose DDH for Home Decluttering Services

Local Experience

15+ Years Working Across New York City

Our team has worked in hundreds of homes across all five boroughs. We know the freight elevator protocols and building management requirements in Manhattan high-rises, the co-op board restrictions on the Upper East Side, and the move-out procedures in buildings throughout the city. That local knowledge removes the guesswork on every project.

High-Value Home Expertise

Trusted Care for Valuable and Sentimental Items

We routinely work with designer collections, fine jewelry, one-of-a-kind antiques, and investment-grade art. Our team handles these items with documented care, and we connect clients with vetted appraisers when pieces need professional valuation before any decisions are made.

A Trusted Professional Network

The Right Partners for Every Home Project

Over 15 years, we have built a trusted professional network throughout New York City: appraisers, gallery contacts, cleaners, painters, floor repair specialists, stagers, and real estate agents. If your decluttering project connects to a broader home project or a listing, we can coordinate the pieces.

Team Capacity

A Full Team, Not a Solo Organizer

Our team of professional organizers lets us take on projects of any size and meet tight timelines. If you are on a listing deadline, a co-op closing schedule, or a building-mandated move-out window, we can accommodate it. A solo organizer typically cannot.

Proven Results

A 5-Star Reputation Across New York City

We hold a 5-star Google rating across hundreds of reviews from NYC homeowners, real estate professionals, and estate clients. Our clients consistently praise our team for their professionalism, care, and results.

What to Expect

The DDH Way

No matter the size of the project, we follow the same structured approach on every New York City home. That consistency is how we have delivered reliable results for 15+ years.

Step 01

Consultation

Every project begins with a detailed phone consultation. We discuss your goals, timeline, and what needs to be done. After the call, we may request photos or a walkthrough to fully assess the scope and prepare before we arrive.

Step 02

Planning

Our team builds a project plan specific to your home, including the materials needed, scheduling, and a realistic timeline. For NYC buildings with freight elevator reservations, co-op board requirements, or building management restrictions, we account for all of it in advance. There are no surprises.

Step 03

Sorting and Removal

On-site, we work through each space methodically. Items are sorted into four categories: keep, donate, sell, and remove. We coordinate appointments with trusted appraisers for valuable pieces, arrange donations to local New York City charities, and manage all disposal and recycling. Nothing leaves the home without purpose or documentation.

Step 04

Organization

With the clutter cleared, we organize what remains into a system designed around your actual lifestyle. We work through the flow of each room, maximize existing storage, and set up a configuration you will actually be able to maintain.

Reviews & Reputation

We’re incredibly proud that so many of our NYC clients have trusted us with their homes and taken the time to share their experience. Whether it’s a single-room decluttering session, a full home transformation, or a complete estate clearout, our team delivers consistent, high-quality results every time. We’re especially proud of how often clients mention the professionalism and ease of working with our team.

I could not be happier with Done & Done and the service Rachel and Alana provided. From start to finish, they were incredible to work with — warm, professional, and genuinely invested in creating a space that felt both beautiful and functional. My apartment looks amazing and is so thoughtfully organized that it truly feels like a weight has been lifted. They went above and beyond in ways that made the experience exceptional. Plus, they are both such lovely people. I am absolutely thrilled with the results and would highly recommend Done & Done in a heartbeat! My mother gifted me a session with Done & Done Home for my birthday, and I could not be more grateful for the experience. Rachel and Alana were incredible and did an outstanding job reorganizing the closets in my apartment. They were friendly, efficient, and wonderfully calm as they tackled all five closets. Together, we sorted everything into three clear categories—keep, donate, and sell—before they thoughtfully reorganized each space in a far more functional and intuitive way. Not only does my home look and feel transformed, but I also gained a real sense of mental clarity from the process. I highly recommend Done & Done Home.

I’m so happy I chose to get help and went to Done and Done. Within minutes of their arrival, they were already tackling what needed to be done and worked really hard for the entire day. Having that extra help was a game changer. We go rid of about 10 industrial sized trash bags worth of stuff!

I cannot recommend Ann and her team highly enough. Sharon and Rachel came to my apartment to purge, organize and pack to get ready for a move. They were so kind and so unbelievably efficient. All of the stress I felt leading up to the move was for nothing. I would use this service again in a heartbeat!

About DDH (Done and Done Home)

Meet The Owner

Over 15 years ago, mother-daughter duo Ann Lightfoot and Kate Pawlowski founded DDH (Done and Done Home) after using their natural organizational talents to help a friend with a move. What began as a passion project swiftly grew into a multi-million dollar business, offering expert organization services to those struggling with their cluttered spaces on a daily basis.

Not only have Ann and Kate built a team of professionals that help people all throughout the Tri-State Area organize their homes, they’ve also written a book, Love Your Home Again: Organize Your Space and Uncover the Home of Your Dreams, and created a course, From Chaos to Calm: A Masterclass in Home Organizing, that teach people to love their home again.

Best Practices for Home Decluttering in NYC

Start with a thorough consultation

Before any work begins, we conduct a detailed phone consultation to understand your space, goals, and timeline. We ask for photos or videos in advance so we arrive fully prepared, with no surprises on project day.

Plan for NYC-specific logistics

Every NYC building and neighborhood comes with its own logistical realities, from freight elevator reservations and co-op board requirements to parking restrictions and building management schedules. We research and plan for every one of them before we show up.

Handle high-value items with care and documentation

New York City homes frequently contain antiques, art, jewelry, and designer collections. We document every high-value item and connect clients with trusted appraisers before any disposition decisions are made.

Build systems that last

Every project ends with a full systems walkthrough so you understand exactly how the organization setup works and how to maintain it. That handoff is what separates a declutter that lasts from one that does not.

Work With an Experienced Team

A successful home decluttering project requires more than removing unwanted items. It requires planning, judgment, discretion, and the ability to make thoughtful decisions about everything from everyday belongings to valuable and sentimental items.

Our experienced organizers bring structure and calm to the process, managing the sorting, removal, and organization from start to finish. You can focus on your family, your work, and your daily life while we create systems that make your New York City home more functional and easier to maintain.
