Perfect The Art of Setting Your Holiday Table
The holiday season is right around the corner and that means dinner parties, festive brunches and tables full of family and friends. But before the guests arrive and the table is set, it’s time for a little prep work behind the scenes.
Welcome To The DDH 5-Day Table Top Organizing Challenge!
We’ve created a fun, easy and totally doable challenge to help you get your dining space guest – ready, one simple task at a time.
Each day, you’ll tackle a specific category of tabletop essentials so that by the end of the week, you’ll be organized, polished, and confident – without scrambling the night before.
Let’s dive in:
Day 1: Take Inventory of Your Linens
Pull out every tablecloth, runner, placemat and cloth napkin you own. Check for stains, tears, or missing items.
- Keep what’s in good shape and fits your table(s)
- Toss or donate anything that’s past its prime
- Launder or press anything you plan to use this season
Bonus Tip: Stack your table linens in a labeled bin or use a hanging organizer to keep them wrinkle-free and visible.
Day 2: Sort and Shine Your Silverware
Open every drawer and gather up all the forks, knives, spoons, and serving pieces.
- Match up sets and polish anything that’s tarnished
- Make sure you have enough place settings for your planned guest list
- Make note of any gaps to fill (dessert forks, steak knives, etc.)
Pro Tip: Consider pre-setting your flatware in small bundles wrapped with ribbon or napkin rings for a stylish shortcut later.
Day 3: Organize Your Glassware
Wine glasses, water goblets, champagne flutes — now’s the time to do a full review.
- Wash anything that’s dusty or hasn’t been used in a while
- Group by type and store them together so you’re not scrambling to find matching sets
- Replace any chipped or missing glasses now while stores are still stocked
Bonus Idea: Add a labeled tray for barware to keep things stylish and functional.
Day 4: Prep Centerpieces and Holiday Decor
The center of your table is the star of the show. Let’s give it some attention.
- Pull out your candlesticks, vases, greenery, or holiday-themed decor
- Dust or clean any pieces you want to use
- Play around with arrangements now so you’re not styling under pressure
Keep it simple: You don’t need elaborate displays. A few candles, some fresh eucalyptus, or a bowl of seasonal fruit can be stunning.
Day 5: Gather The Small (But Essential!) Details
Salt and pepper shakers. Water pitchers. Butter dishes. Trivets. Carving knives. These little things are often forgotten until the moment they’re needed.
- Make a checklist of serving and utility items
- Group them in a bin or drawer marked “Holiday Table”
- Confirm what works and what might need to be replaced
Pro Tip: Stash everything you’ll use on Thanksgiving Day in one designated zone for a zero-stress setup.
You Did It!
By taking just a few minutes a day this week, you’ll head into the holiday season with a dining space that’s organized, elevated, and ready to impress.
No rushing. No last-minute digging for the “good” serving spoon. Just a confident host and a beautifully prepared table.
